Will Vinyl Conditioner Improve Lifespan of Adco RV Propane Tank Cover

Updated 04/01/2026 | Published 03/31/2026

Question:

The Adco dual propane cover I purchased from you guys in Sept 2022 finally gave out due to normalinch wear and tear. The cover stayed on my tanks pretty much 24/7 except when switching out or refilling them. The sides where fine but the top of the cover is reallly what took the full brunt of sun and got all cracked and dry rotted. Is there some sort of vinyl conditioner or something that I could have used to have made the cover last longer?

Hey Bennett, welcome back! A vinyl protectant might have helped a little, but with the # 290-2112 sitting in the sun 24/7, it probably wouldn’t have made a big difference. The top just takes constant UV exposure, and over time that’s going to dry out and crack any vinyl cover.

To really see any benefit, you’d have to reapply it regularly. For most folks it’s just not worth the cost and effort compared to replacing the cover when it wears out. Even if you're diligent the outcome may be the same. The amount of time yours lasted with full-time use is about what I would expect.

Was this on your 2013 Lance 2185? Any big trips coming up this spring?

Ok just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something, and yes, it's for 2013 Lance. We just got back from our spring break out at the Oregon Coast and the weather was fabulous for change!
