Question:

I have a 2016 Grand Design Solitude 384GK. I am considering upgrading the suspension and looking for guidance. Was reading Morryde SRE4000 but not sure if that is right item and if additional parts are needed to make the upgrade. Guidance?

Good morning Kevin.

The MORryde SRE4000 has actually been updated to / replaced by the MORryde ALLTREK 4000 Shock Absorbing Equalizers, such as the kit for Tandem Axle Trailers - 33" Wheelbase - 8K # MR89DR. Do you happen to know what your wheelbase is? That is what determines which kit you need. If you don't know, it's easy to measure!

Simply measure from center of axle to center of other axle and this is your wheelbase. Another way is to measure from the center of the suspension hanger to the center of the other one, as seen in the pic. If this distance measures 59”, the trailer has a 33” wheelbase. If the distance is 61”, this is a 35” wheelbase.

I also recommend upgrading your shackle straps and bolts with a wet bolt upgrade kit from MORryde. You'd need MORryde # MR46ZR if you have 2-1/4" long shackle straps, or # MR76ZR if you have 3-1/8" long shackle straps.

Thanks for the info. How does this compare to Curt Equa Flex suspension? Just got back to Ohio from Charleston SC. Next month going to Ozarks then Michigan / Wi in July. Also going to KY and finally Norther PA for Fall leaves.

@KevinS You're welcome! The Equa-Flex isn't bad, but MORryde takes the crown due to better components and more flex, giving a better ride overall. That's really cool, sounds fun! We are in Missouri (Wentzville) so the Ozarks isn't too far from use :).

Or Dexter? Which is best? We have 42’ (16,000 GVW) Grand Design Solitude. Also replacing tires with G rated tires. Just had a blow-out on E rated three years old.

@KevinS Same as before. MORryde is best overall. EZ Flex from Dexter is okay, better than nothing, but not as good as MORryde. Dang that's unfortunate, sorry that happened!

What about Equa Flex vs Moryde? I also understand the Moryde 4000 dimensions are different and need to confirm fit for my 2016 Hrad Design Solitude 384HK with 35” wheelbase and currently has Curt Equa Flex equalizer. Is the Moryde 4000 worth changing to?

@Kevin Those really aren't bad at all! If they are in good shape, I wouldn't worry about switching to MORryde. The MORrydes are still a little better in my opinion, but I don't think it's such an upgrade that you'd need to swap out the Equa Flex now unless they were damaged and needing replaced anyways.

The morryde gives a smooth ride. I recently put the suspension on with leaf springs and disc brakes. In my opinion the MORryde gives a great ride and disc brakes is the best upgrade to make to any trailer. Recently put 500 miles on and the hubs stayed cold. Also Goodyear endurance tires. Trailer tires only last a couple years anyway due to sitting then running on hot summer highways.
