Hi, I have to tap a new thread onto the shower. Whats the size? I tried 1/2 inch thread but did not fit correctly.

Hey Armando,

I just went out and measured the Replacement Shrader Valve for Yakima RoadShower # Y8881258. I got 1/2" for the thread diameter.

Are you trying to add a second valve for the RoadShower? Or what are you looking to do?

Hi, I'm replacing the valve as the original was welded (or so it looked ) into the shower. I tapped a 1/2" thread but it's not the same thread as the valve's thread.

@ArmandoR. Not sure which valve you are asking. There are 3 valves: (1) shrader valve to pump air (2) the fill cap that has a blowout valve (3) the water valve at the opposite side of the tank for the hose. Based on your comment you have a seized water valve. I am almost sure that one is 1/2” NPT while the air valve is 1/4” NPT. And yeah, if you go to the beach and don’t wash it/lubricate the valves, they will seize. Yakima could have used plastic caps.

@ArmandoR I reached out to Yakima and they were not able to give out specific info due to a pressuring issue for anyone trying to replace it themselves. How did the original valve break?

@JoshB the valve was losing pressure and broke when I tried to replace it, It felt it was welded into the shower but maybe just weathered shut. I bought it before the company was sold to Yakima, I think. I feel with the right size tap drill , I’ll be able to install the new valve.
