How To Stop 2025 Sierra 2500 From Sitting Nose High And Having Loose Steering When Pulling Camper

Published 12/09/2025

Question:

Hooking up my travel trailer to my 2025 Sierra 2500 makes the truck sit nose-high and I can feel the steering get loose. What’s the best fix?

Angela, that nose-high stance is unloading your Sierra’s front axle. The most effective fix is adding load support in the rear, and the Firestone Ride-Rite Air Bag Kit # F64XV does exactly that. Bring the rear back to level, and your steering feel and braking come right back with it.

Since the kit is wireless, you can raise the rear from 5–100 PSI while watching the truck settle.

Do you know how much the trailer squats the truck? You may also want a weight distribution hitch on the back to help leveling and reduce sway, but it's not always necessary to have both setups. One or the other normally takes care of it.
