What Cost Effective Brake Controller do I Need for My 1999 Ford F-350 Pulling a 3 Axle Trailer?

Question:
Hi, I am looking to buy a trailer brake controller. There are seem to be100 different options, that are all very similar. What would you recommend. I’d like to spend $90-$100. I have a 99 F350 with a 2 axle 10k bumper pull liberty car trailer. I may upgrade to a triple axle 2 car goose neck in the future. Thanks,

Hello Jon,
I have a great option for you! I don’t recommend going with a time delayed brake controller. They used to be the only thing out there, but now proportional is definitely the way to go. A proportional controller works in sync with your F-350’s braking, while a time delayed one always takes about 4 seconds to send the signal back. Even if you just tap your brakes lightly, the trailer brakes can go full force and that can make for quite a jolty ride.
I recommend the Tekonsha Voyager Trailer Brake Controller w/ Custom Harness 1 to 4 Axles Proportional # TK32UR. It’s going to give you smooth, consistent braking, and it works with trailers up to 4 axles. The # TK32UR also includes the vehicle specific pigtail for an easy, plug and play install. I’ve attached an install video we did on a 1999 F-350 so you can see exactly how it goes.
What kind of cars are you moving around with your Liberty Car Trailer? Are they your own vehicles, or do you use the trailer for work?

Thanks for the quick response. I will mostly be pulling mine as well as my brother’s drag cars. My truck was not a factory tow package truck. But I believe the last owner installed a OEM Ford hitch and wiring harness. I’m not sure if I have the connection under my dash for the vehicle specific pigtail. The internet doesn’t seem to have any thing with a quick google search. Do you have a vehicle specific install video?
