Troubleshooting a Tekonsha Brake Controller part # 39510 that Wont Power Up
Updated 06/23/2014 | Published 06/21/2014 >
Question:
Just picked up a new trailer 2013, Hooked it to my 1998 E350, with towing package. Rear plug is a 7 prong, with Ford markings. I think it came from the factory. I get no light on Voyager, and no braking, either manual slide bar, or when van brakes are applied. Can you help me determine whether I am getting power to the Controller? Would like to check that before ordering a new Controller. Thanks for all help and products in the past.

To determine if your current controller is wired up correctly you will need to test the 4 wires coming out of the Tekonsha Voyager part # 39510. The black wire should have 12 volts on it at all times, the red wire should only see voltage when the brakes of your tow vehicle are applied, the white wire will be the ground wire for the controller and the blue wire carries the signal to your 7-way.
I suspect the problem is on the black wire since the controller since it sounds like the controller isn't powering on at all. If the controller is wired up correctly and still not powering on then the problem is internal of the controller and it needs to be replaced.
I attached an FAQ on troubleshooting brake controller installs for you to check out also.
