Hey John! The answer in this case is yes and no. Officially, you cannot flat tow your 2017 Toyota Tacoma TRD. If you look in the owner's manual it states "Your vehicle is not designed to be dinghy towed (with 4 wheels on the ground) behind a motor home." However, base plate kits exist for the Tacoma which means enough people do it anyway.

If you want to flat tow the vehicle and it is a manual you can put it in neutral, put the transfer case in 2WD, and accept the risks. For an automatic you will have to install a driveshaft disconnect (this is not something we carry). If you decide to go that route I recommend the following for a complete setup:

-Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit # RM-521196-5

-Roadmaster Falcon 3HD Tow Bar # RM27NQ

-Roadmaster 80" Hybrid Coiled-to-Straight Safety Cables # RM-674

-Roadmaster 4-Diode Universal Wiring Kit for Towed Vehicles - 7-Way to 6-Way Coiled Adapter Cord # RM-15267

-Curt RVi Series Towed Battery Charger+ for Flat Towing # RVI74FR

-Curt RVi Series Shadow 2 Flat Tow Brake System # RVI94FR

More than likely you will also need a high-low adapter to keep your setup level like the etrailer High-Low Adjustable Adapter for Tow Bars # e52ZV. If you decide you don't want to flat tow your vehicle the best option would be to transport it on a trailer with all four wheels off the ground.

Hey John, how did things go with your Tacoma and the flat towing setup? I'm curious if you decided to go with the Roadmaster base plate and tow bar or chose to trailer it instead. Your update could make it easier for others with the same truck.
