If I want a softer glow by the entry, should I add a lens or pick a smaller light? M357FR looking at this 12v clear lense

For a softer entry light, many folks choose a smaller porch fixture or add a secondary porch light with lower output and use the M-3 # M357FR only when you need full area illumination. Plenty of owners note these are bright for doorways.
I wouldn't recommend adding a darker lens to it as that's not how it was designed. If you want a smaller entry light that won't be too bright for you, I'd go with the # 328-007-60WE instead.
