Is There Ladder Rack Kayak Carrier that Will Carry Kayaks Above Truck Cab

Updated 08/21/2025 | Published 08/19/2025

Question:

Looking for a kayak rack for the bed of my truck when pulling my RV. I currently have a Rhino Rack system that allows me to load two mountain bikes above the bed which has a roll top cover w/ a T slot system. Need a kayak rack that will angle the tip above the cab of the truck 5.5ft bed.

Hey Rodney, is your truck bed rack one that sits lower than the top of the truck cab or are the load bars the same height as the cab? If they are same height as the cab we have a solution that could work like the etrailer kayak carrier part # e98878 but if it's a lower bar setup we don't have any angled kayak carriers that would put the nose up higher than the cab.

For a ladder rack with higher crossbars that would fit the channels of your tonneau cover we have the Yakima OverHaul HD part # Y01151-5855.

Thanks for the help. Unfortunately the truck bed rack is lower than the cab. I'll keep searching. I appreciate your input. Rodney

@Rodney If you find something let us know. I don't think I've seen any racks that would angle the kayak up like that though.

@JamesonC I'm wondering about maybe placing one of the ladder rack crossbars up against the cab of the truck, then attaching a couple J-style clamps to hold the kayaks in place. This would potentially give it the necessary angle to pull the kayaks up over the cab and prevent them from interfering with the RV in tow by hanging over the tailgate. Just thinking... Do you sell the crossbars individually by chance? Thanks, Rodney

@Rodney The problem is that the kayak carriers have to sit flush on top of the aero bars that you have and they do not have the ability to be rotated back on the bars so that they could match the angle you are wanting.
