Question:
I am looking to carry 2 bicycles transversely in the bed of my Ram 3500 truck. I want the simplest possible solution. Can these rails be bolted directly to the bed?

Expert Reply:
You could probably fit these in the bed of the truck, but it will require drilling through the bed and replacing the U-bolts in the kit with some standard bolts. These particular racks do require removing the front wheel of the bike in order to get it in the rack. We have simpler bolt-on bike racks that you could orient however you want, like the Swagman part # S64700. I will provide a link to all of them below so you can compare.
Any of the above solutions will require removing the front wheel from the bike. If this is something you do not want to do we have several other styles of truck bed racks, some that do not require removing the front wheel. I have added a link to the bike rack page below and if you scroll to the 5th group down, you will see all the truck bed systems we have.
