Great question Kevin, and you're not alone in wondering this. The CTEK CT5 Powersport Smart Battery Charger # CT79FR is a more compact, smarter unit than the MULTI US 7002, but it delivers 2.3 amps max, compared to the 7002’s 7.2 amps. That means it’s a bit slower for bulk charging larger batteries, but it shines when it comes to battery maintenance, diagnostics, and long-term health.
It’s fully automatic, works on 12V lead-acid (flooded, AGM, EFB, maintenance-free, CA/CA, and GEL) and 12V lithium (LiFePO4) batteries with capacity of 5ah-25ah range. It also has better thermal protection and battery conditioning built in. Matt in Nashville upgraded to the # CT79FR for his ATV and lawn tractor and said it’s perfect for rotating maintenance use.
Are you charging small engines, full-size vehicles, or both? We can help match you with the best CTEK for your garage fleet.

Hey Andrew, thanks for the thorough breakdown! I'm mostly charging small engines — I’ve got a couple of motorcycles, a riding mower, and an ATV. I rotate the old 7002 between them every few weeks during the off-season, but I’m looking for something simpler to leave hooked up longer-term without having to babysit.
