What Might Cause Truck Bed Camper to Porpoise
Updated 09/08/2025 | Published 06/01/2025 >
Question:
I have a 2003 F250 super duty 6 3/4 with a lance squirelite extended cabover. There wasnt enough clearance so the previous owner glued 2 rigid foam insulation under it. Is this causing the porposing bounding? I think the mounts are the hapijac bumper and body mounts with regular turn buckles and chains. What are your suggestions for any issues you feel are bad? I was thinking at least the simple chain tidowns that I can make sure to leave 1/8 to know i have 300 pounds. But maybe my setup needs other fixes.

Hey Guy, I wouldn't assume the foam is causing the porpoising. I'd assume it's the tie downs not being quite tight enough which is allowing the movement. Your best solution would be frame mounted tie downs like the Torklift part # TL53VV as they are just a lot more secure and get tighter.

Hey Guy, did you have a chance to try the frame-mounted tie downs I suggested? I'm curious to know if they helped reduce the porpoising, as it might be helpful for others facing similar issues.
