Larger Tire Size Needed Than 245/70R17.5 for Platinum Coach 4-Horse Gooseneck Trailer

Updated 06/16/2025 | Published 05/23/2025

Question:

I have a Platinum Coach 4 horse living quarters gooseneck horse trailer, original tires were Goodyear 9R17.5 LR H seemingly not wide enough could not find those when I last replaced tires. Now have Bridgestone R238 size 245/70R17.5 J not tall enough need to replace. Require load range H at minimum. What would you recommend?

Hey Wayne, thanks for reaching out!

The Provider HD 235/75R17.5 Radial Trailer Tire - Load Range J # P35175 is the best alternative we have for your Bridgestone tire, but it's only 0.4" larger in diameter than your current tire so you really won't be seeing much of a height increase.

Are you needing the trailer to just sit higher, is that the problem?

Jon G, yes to your question of trailer sitting higher, air ride is not an option, lowering goose neck not feasible due to truck bed height. The 9R 17.5 Goodyears were taller but apparently no longer available. Thanks WAYNE

@Wayne Are your axles on top of the leaf springs or below the leaf springs? If they're currently on top of them, you could potentially use the Dexter Trailer Springs Over-Under Conversion Kit # K71-385-00 which fits 3" diameter axles, and it will raise the trailer the height of the leaf spring stack and the diameter of the axle. What do you think?
