Question:

Hello, in 8-21-91 we purchased a Lowe Model 1620 including trailer . I have to replace my trailer tires A78-13ST and cannot find fitting replacement tires because, my trailer B/R1715 fenders have limited space. I called Lowe Boat Co, they referred me to Shore Landers, they too could not help, even though they build the trailer. I was referred by them to Al Cycle in Little Rock and was told by them that they work on Motor-Cycles only. Checking with a big box store, they suggest replacing my wheels with 12inch rim. The problem, the tire load index is much lower. On the old tire, with the 13rim it is 1215 lbs. The 12inch rim is around 800 lbs. The boat weigth without motor is 620 lbs. My old tires are in inches W=6, H=22. Replacement tires 175/ 80D13 did not fit. Can you help?

The modern equivalent of the A78-13ST is ST175/80-13. Since that size will not work for you the only option is to go to a 12 inch tire and wheel. The other places must have only had a limited selection because you can get a 145/80-12 with a capacity as high as 1,520 pounds.

If the trailer has a 4 on 4 bolt pattern, see link on how to determine bolt pattern, then you can use tire and wheel combo # AM31208. This is a radial tire on an aluminum wheel so it would be excellent for marine use. It is rated for 1,220 pounds at 65 psi.

Both of these tires and wheel combos are 21.3 inches tall and 5.7 inches wide which is just slightly under the measurements of the old tires you have provided.

If you wanted the tires and wheels separately then we have # AM10130 or # AM10140. And for a 12x4 inch steel wheel with a 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern use # AM20132. For a 4 on 4 bolt pattern use # AM20122.
