What Air Conditioner Would Be a Good Replacement for My Current Brisk II with No Heat Pump?

Updated 09/26/2025 | Published 04/16/2025

Question:

I currently have a Dometic AC, H541816A711C0. I need a replacement for this model. Can you recommend a model? This is a top down mount system. Thanks,

Hi John!

The Dometic Penguin II High Capacity RV Air Conditioner - Single Zone - 15,000 Btu - Black # DMC28ZR ( # DMC53ZR for white) is an excellent replacement for your current AC (H541816A711C0). It’s a 15,000 BTU high-capacity unit just like your existing one, and it uses the same R410A refrigerant, so it’ll drop right into the standard 14" x 14" roof opening without any modifications to the cutout. Even better, it’s designed for top-down mounting just like your current system. Since this model is part of Dometic’s single-zone line, it will work seamlessly with your existing single-zone control box and thermostat, so there’s no need to upgrade to a multi-zone setup unless you’re planning other changes. As long as your current control system is in good shape, the swap will be simple.

Let me know if you'd like any part numbers for replacement thermostats or control boards, just in case — happy to help make this an easy upgrade!

Hi John, did you decide to go with the Dometic Penguin II as your replacement AC? I'm curious to know how the installation went and if it met your expectations. Your experience could really help others looking to upgrade their RV air conditioners.
