Recommended Trailer Brake Controller and Adapter for a 2021 Mini Cooper

Updated 10/27/2025 | Published 02/28/2025

Question:

I have a 1947 tear camper with a dry weight of 600lbs. I tow behind my 2021 mini cooper with a tow rating of 1600. My cars brake pads wore way too fast so Im considering trailer brakes. I only have a 4 flat electrical connection. Is there a simple solution to solve my problem? What do you recommend? Thanks...

Hey Cairn there actually is a simple solution. All you'll need, since you have a 4-pin already, is the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller # ETBC7.

This adapter plugs into your existing 4-pin and easily allows you to add a trailer brake controller like the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller # 90195. From here, you'll have full trailer brakes.

Let me know if there is anything else I can do for you!

Hey Cairn, how did things go after adding the ETBC7 kit and the Prodigy P3 brake controller to your Mini Cooper setup? Your results could really help others towing small campers with similar wiring.
