Can a Jeep Be Flat Towed Using its Front-Mount Hitch Receiver

Updated 06/11/2014 | Published 06/09/2014

Question:

I have a jeep with a 2inch receiver hitch in the front and want to tow this behind my pickup. What do I need to connect the 2inch receiver on the jeep to my Pickups 2inch ball?

A front-mount hitch on a vehicle is not suitable for use as a connection point for flat towing with a tow bar. The vehicle being towed, the dinghy, must be equipped with vehicle-specific base plates that will serve as the connection point for the tow bar mounted on the rear of the tow vehicle.

Legal and safe flat towing requires a number of components: tow bar, wiring/lighting kit, safety cables, base plates for the vehicle being pulled and a supplementary braking system. I suggest you review the linked articles that cover each of these items in detail.

If you wish to provide the specifics about your vehicle to be towed (year/make/model/version) I will be glad to offer recommendations.
