Hey Dennis,

The dealer likely just doesn't want to accept any liability and is blanket statement telling you no. The CVT models obviously have to be towed off the ground, but the manual transmission models can be towed with all four wheels down. The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act prohibits manufacturers from voiding warranties based on aftermarket parts so as long as you correctly install the baseplate and follow all the rules that go along with flat towing your Subaru you would be protected.

For your Crosstrek I would recommend the Roadmaster # RM-52927-5. Roadmaster is one of, if not the best, manufacturers for flat towing components so you'll have no worries with this baseplate. Along with the baseplate you'll need a tow bar and safety cables to complete the physical connection between the motorhome and Crosstrek. I recommend the etrailer SD Non-Binding Tow Bar # e74ZR for an all-in-one package that also has a built in rise/drop to help keep the tow bar level.

Next you'll need to transfer your light signals from the motorhome and to do so you'll want the Roadmaster 4-Diode Universal Wiring Kit for Towed Vehicles # RM-15267. The diodes in this kit will splice into your factory tail light wiring and connect to 4-pole wiring from the motorhome so that your traffic signals display through the Crosstrek's tail lights.

You'll also need a supplemental braking system but the correct system is going to be dependent on your motorhome's brake type. If your motorhome has hydraulic brakes then you'll want the Demco Stay-IN-Play Duo # SM99251. If it has air brakes then you'll want the Air Force One # SM99243 instead. You will likely also need the Roadmaster Brake-Lite Relay Kit for Towed Vehicles # RM-88400 to prevent your brake signal from overriding your turn signal.
