How To Deal With A Roof Mounted Antenna When Putting On Your RV Storage Cover

Updated 01/20/2025 | Published 01/19/2025

Question:

Regarding travel trailer covers, our trailer has a whip-type radio antenna mounted on the roof. How is that kind of antenna accommodated by the cover? Just fold it as flat as it can go without permanent bending? Cut a hole and place a grommet in the cover? Other methods?

Hey Tom,

Typically you'd just bend the antenna down and have the cover sit over it. That's completely dependent on the length of the antenna and its flexibility though. If bending down isn't an option I'd just see if I could replace the antenna with one that has an adjustable base like the Jensen # 44US01R so that you can lay the antenna flat against the roof when the cover is being used. I would not cut a hole in the cover and add a grommet since this would likely just lead to a leak and further wearing on the cover.

What's the connection type for the antenna base and the cable from it to the stereo?
