Question:
We are having trouble hooking up the brakes to the trailer! Tekonsha Voyager Controller 39510 only sends power to the trailer when using manual over ride does not apply brakes when using foot peddle! The controller uses two wires to the trailer-one wire is activated when the slide bar is used and a different wire is activated when using the foot brake. The trailer brakes are only activated on one wire.

When a brake controller only works with the manual override and not with the brake pedal that indicates a problem along the brake controller red wire that carries the input signal from the brake switch. Use a circuit tester like # PTW2993 and test the red wire leading into the brake controller when you step on the brake pedal.
If the wire does NOT show power then the most likely culprit is a blown or missing stop light or CHMSL fuse. Use the truck owners manual to find their locations to check them.
If it does show power then it may be that the controller is mounted outside of its accepted range or that the power level needs to be adjusted
You can also sever the blue wire a few inches from the back of the controller and use the circuit tester on the end coming from the controller. It should only show power when you apply the manual override. If it shows power at any other time then there is something wrong inside the controller and it will need to be replaced.
I have included a link to an FAQ article on troubleshooting brake controllers for you.
