Could I connect the power line to a separate 12V battery in the trunk?

The Curt T-Connector # C56259 can connect to a 12 volt battery in your trunk but it is important this battery is maintained off the vehicle alternator. This will ensure the lights for the trailer always have enough power.

In my case it would be a small 12.8V battery that’ll only be connected when we have a trailer on, and have it unplugged whenever we don’t. Would this work?
