Troubleshooting PL Code on a Tekonsha Prodigy Brake Controller
Published 11/08/2024 >
Question:
I have a Prodigy brake controller. Purchased about 2005. It has worked flawlessy for years. Recently my truck sat for some time and the battery went dead. After charging the battery and starting my truck my controller displays PL. This is with no trailer connected. Is there a way to reset this code? Possible faults? The controller has power going to it and with no trailer connected I assume if this fault displays the controller has power. Any ideas?

Hey Mike,
The PL code on a Tekonsha Prodigy controller, like the P2 # 90885, just means that the controller is seeing issues when the brake pedal is depressed. What I recommend doing is unplugging the controller for at least 5 minutes and then plugging it back in to see if that resets it.
Aside from that we have a wide variety of troubleshooting remedies that our expert team has recommended over the years but it all boils down to there being an issue with the wiring somewhere so I recommend double checking that your ground is properly secured to a clean, bare metal surface, and that your black power wire doesn't lose power when you press your brake pedal. If it does, then you'll want to check those connections as well as the circuit breaker on that wiring to make sure it's all in good condition.

Thanks Jon. I unplugged the controller yesterday so I will reconnect and see if what happens. The fault appears without the brakes applied so hopefully the reset works. I'll let you know tonight.
