Troubleshooting Hopkins Tow Bar and Trailer Wiring Not Allowing Right Turn Signal to Work

Updated 10/14/2024 | Published 10/13/2024

Question:

I’ve installed both the 56200 and 42635 harnesses on my 2011 Jeep Wrangler. When not connected to my motorhome, everything works great. Trouble is when I connect my motorhome, all lights work except right blinker from 4 pole connector. What could wrong or what do I need?

Hey Steve, that sounds like a connector on the vehicle just not seated properly. I would try unplugging all of the Hopkins connectors and plugging them back in firmly and the issue should go away.

Tried disconnecting and reconnecting a few times. Also, if it was a connection issue why would it work when not connected to motorhome. The 56200 flat tow harness is connected first to Jeep than the 42635 harness to taillight. Again, when connected to motorhome, Jeep right blinker works but not the 4 pole plug right blinker. Right one works fine.

@SteveC I would see if disconnecting the trailer wiring and just having the tow bar wiring connected by itself allows it to work with the motorhome like it should. I can't see why that would be the case but basically we need to try and eliminate as many things as we can to narrow down what the issue is. It's also very likely the problem is just the tow bar wiring harness.

@JamesonC Problem solved.... What I found was that there was no voltage being supplied to the right blinker on the 4 pole connector. As I traced it back, no right blinker power out of the flat tow connector. What I did was tap into the power coming out of the diode converter for right signal and direct feed to the 4 pole connector.
