Will Thule OutWay Platform Trunk Bike Rack Damage Carbon Fiber Frames

Updated 10/09/2024 | Published 10/06/2024

Question:

Hi I would like to buy the thule outway platform rack. Several users say that you need to hear 2 clicks of the wheel (the jaw that grips the frame) for the frame to be properly secured. Is this true? Couldn't this damage a carbon frame (if the clamp is too tight)? I have my doubts, thank you for your reply. David

Hello David; it is safe to use the Thule OutWay Platform Trunk Bike Rack # TH65JV with your carbon fiber frame. However, you need to use the Thule Carbon Bike Frame Protector # TH984101 so you don't damage it with the padded clamps. Thule specifically calls this out in the instructions for the OutWay platform rack as seen below.
