Installing Brake Controller on 2009 Pete Semi

Updated 01/27/2026 | Published 08/22/2024

Question:

Hi, my name is John and I’m trying to wire a break exist into my semi. I Got a semi truck that’s a 2009 Pete with air brakes I’ve got a hook up electric brake controller, but I’m not sure how to do that. I found the brake switch under the dash and I know the red wire goes on the brake pedal side when it lights up. I got that part, but what I’m confused on is I know the black wires gotta go on a 12 V system do I hook them to the battery or do I hook it into the wiring harness on the side on the truck at the block plug and where does the blue wire get hooked into on the trailer plug? Does it hook into the trailer plug or where would I hook that up ?

Hi John; your 12V power wire needs to run to the battery. You're going to want a 20 amp # PK54520 or 30 amp # PK54530 breaker installed in-line as well. The blue wire connects to the blue brake output wire that runs to your 7-way connector. I have attached a few articles below which cover brake controller installations for your reference.

Hey John, how did things go wiring the Prodigy P3 into your Pete’s air brake system? Your update could make it easier for others working on a similar setup.
