Can I Use a Roof Top Tent on my 2016 Honda Civic

Question:
Hey there, I’m looking to mount a roof top tent to my 2016 Honda Civic sedan and I’m not sure where to start. I was thinking roof load bars of some sort? Any information you can share would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

Hey Marc, thanks for reaching out!
The standard roof racks for your 2016 Honda Civic use clamps, like we see with the Thule WingBar Evo Kit # TH95TG, and the vast majority of roof top tents say not to use their product on a roof rack that has clamps because they aren't as solid as a roof rack that secures to OEM rails on any given vehicle.
I vaguely remember someone in the past reaching out to me and pointing out a roof tent manufacturer that said a clamp-style system was okay, but I'm skeptical when they're the only ones in the industry singing that tune.
We want to make sure your Civic stays in good shape so I recommend using a different vehicle for this. I looked into getting you setup for towing a trailer to put the roof tent on, but your owner's manual said not to tow with this vehicle so I can't recommend going that route either.
I know it's not ideal, but I want you to enjoy using the roof top tent instead of hoping and praying your Civic stays in good shape the whole time.
