How to Carry Aventon 500 Ebike on 2017 Mercedes-Benz E300

Updated 02/03/2026 | Published 06/24/2024

Question:

I have a Aventon 500 step through e-bike that I need to transport on occasion on my 2017 Mercedes E300. I would prefer a bake rack that does not need a hitch. The bike weighs 50 lbs all in but about 35 with its battery and front wheel removed. Can I transport it without the battery and front wheel? Thanks so much

Hello Robert,

I am not aware of a way to carry your Aventon 500 step-thru ebike with its front wheel removed and on a bike rack. You can remove the battery and get it to 35 lbs and put it on a rack though. That's the best option, and the first thing you'll need (if you don't have one) is a hitch for your 2017 Mercedes-Benz E300, the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C11454.

This is a Class I, 1-1/4" hitch so you'll need a bike rack that is compatible, and for that use the Saris Freedom Bike Rack # SA4412B.

This is compatible with Class I hitches, weighs just 22-1/2 lbs so it's easy to handle, and uses clamps to grasp the bike by its frame so it'll work even with a step-through bike like your Aventon.

Hey Robert, how did things go with adding the hitch and using the Saris Freedom rack for your Aventon 500? Did the setup make it easier to load and carry your bike safely? Your update could make it easier for the next person with the same setup.
