Installation of Air Lift 1000 Air Helper Springs for Coil Springs on 1999 Toyota 4Runner
Question:
I don’t understand how the black rubber piece goes inside the coil spring. I have a spacer lift as shown in the picture with no jounce bumpers. So from the install instructions, it would be 1 in the install sequence of figure 5. Seems like no matter how the black rubber piece provided in the kit gets installed, it would be loose and rattling around. Is this piece necessary? Seems like a lot of people don’t use it from what I can tell in the reviews. Thanks

Hi Kyle; since you don't have a jounce bumper at the top spring seat you are correct about the # AL60743 installation being Type 1 which uses the protector. Without any jounce bumper it is necessary to use the protector to make sure it engages properly. The only thing really holding it in place in your picture would be the stem and air line. Once you get it on your vehicle the compression from the weight will help keep it in place.
