Question:

I have a 2024 Ford Expedition. My husband is a big surfer and I know nothing about surf racks. We are about to go on a beach trip, he usually brings a long board and a short board. What is the best surf rack for my car? It does have the side rails at the top. Every surf rack we have gotten in the past has been really noisy, especially going fast on highways.

Hey Katelyn, thanks for reaching out!

I recommend picking up the Lockrack Surfboard Rack # LR97VR which can hold 1-2 surfboards and easily holds the boards with the adjustable arms. The best part about this rack is that the arms secure the boards well enough that no additional anchors (like front and rear tie downs) are needed! I have heard of people still securing at least the front of the boards though to help keep the wind from lifting up on the board too much.

If you don't already have a roof rack then I recommend checking out the Rhino-Rack Vortex StealthBar Roof Rack # JB0190. This uses straps to secure around your raised rails and sits low enough that they look like OEM crossbars.

Please note that when you start adding accessories to the top of your roof you'll start to get that wind noise. The Vortex system is the newer aero-style which will help cut down on that, but you might consider adding a Fairing # RRRF2 to help make everything a little more aerodynamic.
