Plug & Play Harness For Redarc Tow-Pro Elite in 2020 Acura MDX

Updated 07/16/2024 | Published 05/19/2024

Question:

Hi, I am looking at the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Brake Controller - Dash Knob - 2 Braking Modes - 1 to 3 Axles - Proportional for an Acura 2020 MDX. I would like a plug and play harness to use with it. Would the RED59FR work? If not, which one would work. Also, would the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 7-Way Trailer Connector Item 118289 be a good choice with this brake controller? Thanks in advance for your help. John

Hi John,

We can get your 2020 Acura MDX set up with the Redarc brake controller and there is a plug-and-and play harness that will work. You were also correct about the 7-way, and that's what will allow you to use the plug-and-play harness. First, lemme go ahead and list out the parts you need:

- Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Brake Controller for Tekonsha Harness # RED63RR

- Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Harness # 3028-P

- T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 7-Way Trailer Connector # 118289

The Tow-Pro actually comes with its own adapter that allows you to use the Tekonsha # 118289 harness; I know that sounds complicated, but it's really simple. One end of the adapter plugs into the Tow-Pro unit and the other end accepts the Tekonsha plug-in harness.

Hi Kyle. Thank you for your quick reponse and the suggestion. Yes, I did put the fuse in position 9 in the rear fuse box (I was surprised that the MDX has 5 fuse boxes!) . I checked that it is good and that there is power there. Could there be another fuse to add or check? I started to randomly put a fuse in each open fuse holder to see if the Redarc would light up, but had no success. I am assuming it would light up as soon as there is power. Is that correct? Sincerely, John

@JohnF Not that I'm aware. Have you checked the 12 volt power wire to see if it's coming through and into the controller?

Hi Kyle, Your recommendation was perfect for our 2020 Acura MDX. The installation went great, but I have a question. The brake controller is lit up all the time. If I hook up the trailer and hit the brakes, the brake controller does light up, but otherwise it does not light up. I believe that this means it is not getting power all the time. Am I correct? If so, would you be able to tell me which fuse is for the brake controller? I have tried to locate it myself with no success. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, John

@JohnF Glad things went well overall, and you're correct about what the light being on only when the brakes are hit means. The fuse should be position 9 of the rear fuse box. If you take a look at the instructions of the # 118289 (linked below) that will show which is being referenced.
