Hey Jeff,

When trying to figure out the best weight distribution hitch for your setup you'll need to get an accurate reading of the tongue weight when the trailer is fully loaded like you're ready to go to the campsite. Once you have this measurement you'll want to look at the capacity ranges of the hitches available and choose one that you fall in the middle of so that if you unload a bit during your trip or end up picking up some extras you'll have the capacity for it to be a smooth ride.

Without this measurement the rule of thumb is 10-15% of your trailer's GVWR. With yours being 6,000lbs that we give us a tongue weight of roughly 600-900lbs of tongue weight. The next factor to consider the amount of sway control you need to safely tow your trailer. This really depends on the tow vehicle so the lighter the vehicle the more sway you're likely to experience. There's 2-point and 4-point friction sway options available depending on the severity you're experiencing.

If you need sway control the Fastway e2 line or Equal-i-zer line of WDH's are great at minimizing sway without braking the bank. If you get occasional sway and just want an easy to use system the Blue Ox SwayPro is the easiest to setup and go and is one of my personal favorites. If money isn't a problem and you plan on towing trailers with different tongue weights the B&W Continuum # BW78FR has the largest range at 600lbs - 1,600lbs of capacity.

If you go with the Blue Ox SwayPro then I recommend the # BXW0750. It has a 550lb - 750lb tongue weight capacity so you will want to measure your tongue weight prior to purchase. The spring bars of this system are interchangeable so you can always purchase higher or lower rated bars to match the tongue weight of any of the trailers you use it on.

If you experience a decent amount of sway then you can go with the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution w/ 2-Point Sway Control # FA92-00-0800, which has a capacity range of 400lbs - 800lbs. The spring bars for this system are also interchangeable so you can match the trailer's tongue weight.

If you experience a lot of sway then the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System w/ 4-Point Sway Control # EQ37100ET, which has 4-points of friction to help eliminate sway. It has a 600lb - 1,000lb tongue weight capacity range so it's a bit more on the upper end of your trailer's tongue weight but you can adjust the hitch to a lighter tension to keep a comfortable ride quality. Increasing the capacity of the spring bars on this system might involve swapping out other components, like the head unit, due to larger capacity bars having larger dimensions.
