Question:

I’m looking for a cargo rack that could haul a lawn aerator with a footprint roughly 29x29inch using this hitch on my 2017 Ford CMax. Aerator weighs approximately 250lbs. Would a cargo rack be possible or would I need to get a small trailer? Itd be a Ryan Lawnaire IV for reference.

The only carrier I can see working with the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C12092 on your 2017 Ford C-Max is the 19x47 Curt Cargo Carrier # C18110 which is rated for 300 lbs. Since this is only 19" deep you'll have about 5" of the lawn aerator hanging over each side of the carrier but it's the best option for your situation.

Any other cargo carrier we have will use a higher wall profile so the aerator will have to sit a bit awkwardly on/in the carrier and you won't be able to secure it as well.
