How to Wire Up a Winch on a Trailer Powered by the Tow Vehicle

Updated 04/14/2014 | Published 04/13/2014

Question:

How long are the cables that go to the battery? If I permanently mount this to my trailer will the cables reach my trucks battery? Do you offer any protective box that could cover this? Prefer a locking box. Would this be a good choice for a car hauler trailer with five foot ramps? I would need to pull vehicles up the ramps onto the car hauler?

You will also need the Trailer and Vehicle Winch Wiring Kit part # BDW20207 to go along with your Superwinch Tiger Shark Off Road Winch part # SW1595200. This will give you the wiring you would need to power the winch with your vehicle battery on your trailer.

Another option is to install a heavy duty battery on your trailer to power the Superwinch Tiger Shark Series Off-Road Winch # SW1595200. I would run install the winch where you want it on your trailer to winch the vehicles up the ramp and then put a battery near enough that you could run the power and ground wires straight to this battery.

Check out the FAQ article I attached on wiring up a winch.
