Helpful Expert Reply:
The gasket on the Horst Miracle Probe Sensors for RV Black Water Tanks # T21301VP is only about 1/4" in length so installing it in something thicker could potentially allow waste water to leak back into the hole and possibly out from the gasket. That being said, you could also caulk around the gasket on the outside of the tank to prevent any leaks. The key is really just making sure that the sensor is in enough to actually touch the water. If it sits back inside the hole there's also the chance that the some water or solid waste could get in the hole as well and cause the sensor to constantly think there's water up to its level.
