They're not terribly different, but you aren't going to be able to use the same setup form your 03 Forester on your 09 Forester.
So, to get your Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero Crossbars # RRVA118B to work with your 2009 Forester, you'd need to use the Thule WingBar Evo Roof Rack for Fixed Mounting Points # TH38SG.
