Why Does My Kats Heaters Transmission/Oil Heating Pad Have a Burning Smell When Plugged In

Question:
we have a kats oil pan heating pads on our 06 grand caravan and our 72 cutlass show car...love them...they are both about 8-9 years old...yesterday i plugged them in to test for this season and they both gave off an odd slight burning smell...after a few minutes...i then unplugged them... whats up?.... thank you respectfully,

If you turn on your Kat's Heaters Oil or Transmission Pan Heating Pad # KH24150 for the first time of the season and smell a burning dust, this is completely normal. It just means there's dust in your heating unit, which is harmless and should burn off quickly.
However, If you smell an electrical burning smell, then this is not normal and would mean the unit has gone bad and would need replacing, and since your pads are 8-9 years old, this may be the case.
