Question:
I have pilot brake controller that was working fine. Showed red dot when trailer was not connected annd brake pedal pressed and numbers while trailer was connected. Then the numbers stopped showing up when trailer is connected. Still red dot while not trailer is not connected, however not red dot and no number while connected. Checked the 7 pin on vehicle and the brake pin shows 4 volts when pedal is pressed and nothing when not. Is it just not powering enough?

I took a look at the owner's manual for the Pro Series Pilot Trailer Brake Controller part # 80550 and found the troubleshooting section which covers the issue you're having so I recommend following these steps which are attached below. If you still cannot get the controller to function properly it might be time to replace/upgrade. In which case, a proportional controller is going to be a much better option offering smoother and faster braking than the time delayed you have now. I recommend the Tekonsha BRAKE-EVN Trailer Brake Controller part # TK63VR which will be plug and play.
