Can I Tow a U-Haul Trailer with My 2017 Kia Soul
Question:
Hi, Id like to tow a U-Haul cargo trailer with my 2017 Kia Soul+. Would the Curt Class 1 Trailer hitch be up for the job? Would this handle the 5x8 trailer or just the 4x8? max load 1800 and 1650 respectively Thanks!

Since the Class I Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C11419 for your 2017 Kia Soul can tow up to 2,000 lbs it will be able to handle the weight of either trailer, but the 1,650 lbs and 1,800 lbs weight ratings you're seeing is the max amount of cargo each trailer can hold. When you add the weight of the trailer into the mix you're then looking at 2,500 lbs for the 4x8 and 2,700 lbs for the 5x8.
As long as you stay under the 2,000 lb weight capacity of the Curt hitch you'll be fine. This means the 850 lb 4x8 trailer can be loaded with 1,150 lbs to max out the Curt hitch, and the 900 lb 5x8 can be loaded with 1,100 lbs to max out the Curt hitch. I recommend shaving off 100 lbs of cargo though so you aren't max-ing out the hitch since it's a weaker Class I. It's also important to check your owner's manual for any instructions on weight capacities and best towing practices for your vehicle.
To complete your towing setup you also need the T-One Wiring Kit # 118637 and a ball mount like the Curt Euro Style Drawbar with 1-7/8" Ball # C45591, along with a pin and clip like # F-4.
I've attached some videos for you to check out!
