I dont know the tongue weight or total weight of my 18 foot Prowler Weekender. I pulled it home with a bumper mounted ball on my 2000 Ford Ranger very scary..I bought a round tube Hidden Hitch Class 3 hitch from you and installed it and now want to get sway control and load distribution setup. Can I get a unit that is too heavy for my use? I imagine that I could get one that is not heavy enough too.

The key consideration for determining the correct weight distribution system for your truck and trailer is to know the fully loaded and ready to tow tongue weight of the set up. To determine the tongue weight, you will need to consider the weight of both the trailer, and any cargo that you may have in your truck that is located behind the rear axle.
I have provided a link to one of our information articles that explains how to determine the tongue weight of your particular set up.
I was able to find your specific order and you have the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Class III trailer hitch # 75082, and this trailer hitch is rated for use with a weight distribution system for up to 750 pounds of tongue weight. I will use that figure an a reference.
If the fully loaded tongue weight of your truck and trailer is equal or less than the tongue weight of the hitch that you have installed, then the Pro Series Weight Distribution System # PS49583 would work for your application. This weight distribution system is rated for use for 750 to 1000 pounds of tongue weight, and is not compatible on trailers that use surge brakes.
This system uses spring-bars that are adjusted by changing the number of chains used on the lift brackets. It offers a friction style of sway control that is also adjustable depending on your towing needs. The angle of the weight distribution head is also adjustable using the included washers. It also includes a trailer ball that is 2-5/16 inch in diameter on the weight distribution head.
You are correct that you can select a weight distribution system. A weight distribution system that is not rated correctly will not provide the full benefit of a the system.
