Question:
Hi. After breaking a tire cable this week and tearing out a brake sensor, Im looking at tire chains. I have a 2020 Subaru Crosstrek with 225/55-18 Tires. It looks like both of these will fit: TH2004205104 TH04115104 I noticed that on Konigs website, they suggested the XG-12 Pro 240. Wanted to check if that was the same as the CG-9 or in fact a sturdier chain since I noticed some of the reviews mentioned the CG-9 breaking. Thanks.

So the CG-9 and XG-12 Pro 240 are the same chain, just different sizes, and each of the Konig tire chains are made from manganese nickel alloy steel. That's just a corrosion-resistant, hardened steel alloy, which is much stronger than other types of steel, and why it is often used on tire chains. For your 2020 Subaru Crosstrek, the only difference between the two Konig tire chains that fit your 225/55-18 tires is the ease of install:
- Easiest Install: Konig Easy Fit Tire Chains - Diamond Pattern - Square Link - Self Tensioning # TH04115104
- Not Quite as Easy (But Honestly Still Pretty Simple): Konig Tire Chains - Diamond Pattern - Square Link - Self Tensioning # TH2004205104
Upgrading from cables to chains is definitely a smart move because of how flimsy cables are, and in terms of breaking, neither of these will be stronger than the other, and they both have a 5-year warranty, which is very good for snow tire chains. So both are going to last, it just depends on how often you will use them and how much time you want to spend installing the chains.
For pretty frequent use, I'd save myself as much time as possible by going with the Easy Fit # TH04115104 as you just put them on your tire and use your foot to push down on the pedal. The Konig # TH2004205104 will have you spending a bit more time during the install as you'll have to make more connections.
