Recommended Hitch and Bike Rack for a 2012 Chrysler 200 Convertible

Published 02/12/2023

Question:

I have a 2012 Chrysler 200 convertible and recently purchased an Evelo Atlas ebike pictured here: https://evelo.com/products/atlas. The bike has 27.5inch x 2.8inch tires, a 46inch wheelbase, a crossbar and fenders in both the front and rear. The bike weighs 58 lbs. without battery. Im looking for a compatible bike rack for a single bike along with a hitch that will fit my car and my bike. I have a sloped driveway. Since my car is not large and certainly doesnt have the ground clearance of an SUV, I have some concerns about the ability to back out without scraping the ground if I have both the hitch and rack in place. If necessary, I could always attach the rack once I have backed out of the driveway. What hitch and rack would you recommend? Thanks!

The best hitch for a 2012 Chrysler 200 is the Curt Trailer Hitch item # C11133. This hitch is custom fit and bolts to your cars frame with included hardware. The bottom of the receiver is right at 9-1/2" from the ground so you should have plenty of clearance.

Congrats on the new bike! I took a look at the link you provided and I did see that your Evelo Atlas weighs 58 lbs without the battery. I recommend using the Saris SuperClamp EX Bike Rack for 2 Bikes item # SA4025F. This bike rack has a 60 lbs capacity per bike and will work with a class I hitch.

The SuperClamp is a wheel mounted bike rack but the arms will fold down far enough in the back to avoid your rear fenders. It does not look like the fenders extend enough in the front but the front clamp can also fold down to avoid them if necessary.

One of the best features about this bike is the shank rises about an inch after it leaves your receiver. This will give you extra clearance when backing out of your steep driveway. The SuperClamp also has a tilting function that works with the bikes attached. This should give you enough clearance to raise and lower your convertible top with the bike rack and bikes attached.

I have linked a couple of review and installation videos below. Please let me know if you have anymore questions.
