Question:

I have a trailer with drum brakes. The hitch is an Atwood 83000 weld on that needs to be replaced. Which model would be the easiest to replace the actuator with?

The Atwood 83000 is a weld-on coupler that fits a 3" straight trailer tongue and is rated for 8,000 lbs. If you truly need the 8,000 lb capacity then I recommend the Demco Hydraulic Brake Actuator w/ Drop # DM8669112. However, this does have a 4" drop.

If a 7,000 lb gross towing weight works for your application then the Demco Hydraulic Brake Actuator # DM72VR would be a better choice. Both of these feature a bolt-on installation so you don't have to worry about welding and a zinc plating for corrosion resistance. They also come with the EZ-Latch coupler mechanism which lets you hook up when the latch is in the closed position.
