The Jif Marine Folding Pontoon Ladder # JIF48FR you will want to angle away from the boat making it easier to both climb up and down. While there is not an exact measurement that I can give you to drill the holes away from the edge of the boat you will want to place them on your boat to find the exact spot for your holes. This is due to the bottom support legs will not being flush with the edge of the boat and as all boats don't have the same overhang you will want to verify their placement before drilling. The holes will be 13" left to right but the distance in will vary.
