Question:

If adding an oil cooler in line with a oil filter relocator kit on a Volkswagen engine that is in a sand rail how do you keep the oil from draining out of the oil cooler creating air possible dry startups . And would it still be okay to run the stock oil cooler in the fan shroud housing

I spoke with Derale in regards to the Derale Oil Filter Relocation Kit # D15748, and they said that the oil filter itself is going to be the best component for preventing drain back as most filters have an anti-backflow valve built in.

The other best way to prevent that would come down to how the cooler is mounted as if the ports are pointed upwards then it would not be able to drain and the pressure from the pump will still flow the oil.

Additionally, It would be perfectly fine to run the stock cooler in the housing if you desire to do so.
