Since the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness # C56013 doesn't come with diodes you should be just fine without diodes when installing this on your 2005 Chevy Malibu Maxx as Curt tends to do a good job at determining the need for diodes.
If you'd feel safer with a measure of protection between the vehicle and trailer wiring then I recommend checking out the Hopkins Plug-In Simple Vehicle Wiring Harness # HM11141605 instead. This tees in behind the tail lights like the Curt but it also comes with a module that helps to protect your vehicle wiring. This kit also comes with a power lead you connect directly to your vehicle battery so you don't overdraw the vehicle circuits.
