There are a couple of places that you will plug into when installing trailer wiring harness # 118518 on a 2012 Mitsubishi Outlander. The connection in the back is best accessed by removing the panel forward of the jack storage compartment like our installers show in the video I have linked for you to the right.
The harness at the front of the vehicle is best accessed by moving the battery out of the way. This is also covered in the video.
The panels in the back can also be temporarily pulled up if the factory harness has fallen out of reach. Using a trim panel remover tool, # PT73HJ, will help.
