Question:
You mention needing to strap or support non trailer loads using the Curt hitch for the jeep srt8. I am not sure what this means, or why it is necessary? Is the load dynamic or different with a bike rack? Please advise before I buy the hitch, as there are no anchor points for additional straps on the Jeep. Thanks,

The anchor points for the required straps when using the Curt Hitch # C11103 are actually in your hatch door of your 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
If your vehicle does not have a spoiler then you can attach the clip to the top of your hatch door. If you vehicle does have a spoiler then you will need to close the strap in the base of your hatch door.
By using the Curt mandated stabilization strap on hitch mounted accessories, such as bike racks and cargo carriers, it relieves some of the pressure that is inadvertently put upon the hitch by standard road wear. This process helps to ensure that neither the hitch, vehicle or cargo are damaged in transit.
Curt requires a strap to be used with all Class I and II hitches and even some Class III hitches. You can either use the Curt Stabilization Strap # 18050 or any strap that will secure your load with the same method. Please do not just bungee cords because the stretching of that type of material will not provide stabilization or reduce the stress of the strap.
Because the Curt # C11103 is a Class I trailer hitch it has a 2 bike limit. Also, all hitch mount accessories need to be Class I compatible.
I have attached a brief, basic installation video showing how the stabilization strap works.
