Is the passenger mirror a standard mirror, not one that says objects are closer than they appear

That is correct. Both mirrors that come in the Wheel Masters Eagle Vision Universal Extendable Towing Mirrors Kit # WM6600-2 are flat so that "objects are closer than they appear" won't apply to the passenger mirror like it would with a standard convex-shaped mirror.
