Is Tongue Weight Capacity Amount a Cargo Carrier Can Weigh on Hitch For 2013 Ford Fiesta Sedan

Question:

Hi, I’m interested in putting a trailer hitch on a 2013 Ford Fiesta Sedan. Both of your products show a maximum tongue weight of 200 lbs. The type of trailer I plan on using is a platform that doesn’t touch the ground at all behind the car to haul a scooter. My understanding is that tongue weight isn’t the same as the weight it would support in this situation. What weight could this hitch support? Is it in any way affected by the vehicle type? It sounds like you are referring to a cargo carrier or motorcycle-type carrier as opposed to a wheeled trailer for your 2013 Ford Fiesta sedan. And in regards to tongue weight, that is exactly the amount of weight that a carrier (plus it's cargo) can weigh.

So for your 2013 Ford Fiesta sedan, the maximum weight a platform carrier and your scooter can weigh is 200 lbs combined - and it also must be a Class I-compatible carrier with a 1-1/4" shank so it works with the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C11369
