Can 2-1/4 Inch Spring Hangers Be Shimmed for 1-3/4 Inch Wide Leaf Springs

Question:

the spring is 1 3/4 inches wide and the spring hangers are 2 1/4 inside dimension. do I use washers for the gap?

You could use washers to take up the width difference, but the safest recommended practice would be to replace the existing spring hangers with those designed for 1-3/4 inch leaf springs. If you decide to go that route, you'll want to choose replacement hangers that are the same height as the existing hangers.
